Description
Omkareshwar Temple is a sacred Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated on Mandhata Island in the Narmada River in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas, making it an important pilgrimage destination for devotees of Shiva. The island’s shape is believed to resemble the sacred Hindu symbol “Om,” which gives the temple its name. Surrounded by scenic hills and flowing waters, the temple offers a spiritually uplifting atmosphere. Its architecture reflects traditional North Indian temple style, with intricately carved pillars and a towering spire. Pilgrims perform rituals, abhishek, and parikrama around the island as part of their worship. The temple complex also includes several smaller shrines and ghats along the riverbank. Omkareshwar is visited throughout the year, especially during Mahashivratri, when thousands of devotees gather to seek blessings and experience its deep religious significance.
