Churdhar Mahadev Temple is a sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located on Churdhar Peak in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Situated at an altitude of about 3,647 meters (11,965 feet), it is one of the highest peaks in the Shivalik range of the Himalayas. The temple is surrounded by dense forests and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.
Mythological Significance
According to local beliefs, Churdhar is associated with Lord Shiva and Sage Shirgul Maharaj, who is considered an incarnation of Lord Shiva in the region. Devotees believe that Lord Shiva meditated at this sacred spot. The temple holds deep spiritual importance, and many pilgrims undertake a challenging trek to seek blessings.
