Introduction

Chidambaram Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva as Nataraja, the Cosmic Dancer. It is one of the most sacred Shiva temples in India.

The temple is located in Chidambaram town, Tamil Nadu, about 235 km from Chennai and 78 km from Puducherry.

Pancha Bhoota Significance

Chidambaram represents Akasha (Space) and is one of the Pancha Bhoota Sthalas, the five Shiva temples symbolizing the five natural elements.

Deities Worshipped

The temple enshrines Lord Nataraja (Shiva) and Lord Govindaraja Perumal (Vishnu), making it one of the rare temples where both Shaivite and Vaishnavite deities are worshipped together.

Spread over 50 acres, the temple is known for its golden-roofed Chidambaram Sabhai, five courts, and the iconic jeweled Nataraja idol depicting the Ananda Tandava (Dance of Bliss).
